GATE, BLAST, LOW PRESSURE, SHEET METAL PIPE SYSTEMS
This Commercial Item Description (CID) is approved by the Commissioner, Federal Supply Service, General Services Administration, for the use of all Federal agencies. This CID is to be used in preference to MIL-G-18120.
Abstract. This CID covers metal blast gates designed for use in round, low pressure type, sheet metal air ducts.
Salient characteristics.
1. Description. The blast gate shall be designed for use in dust collecting systems at air temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (oF). The flow area through the gate in the fully opened position shall be not less than 85 percent of the area of a round sheet metal duct having the same nominal size as the blast gate. The blast gate shall be designed with tapered, collar-type connections sized to slip into round sheet metal duct having the same nominal size as the blast gate. The slip-fit connection shall provide a minimum of 1/2-inch overlap. The gate shall be nominal sizes of 2 inches in diameter up to and including 24 inches, as specified in the contract or purchase order.
2, Blast gate materials. The body, including collar connectors, shall be fabricated of cast iron, cast aluminum, aluminum sheet, or zinc-coated (galvanized) steel sheet. The sliding gate shall be of the aluminum or galvanized steel sheet or plate. The weight of zinc coating for galvanized and galvannealed sheet used for the body and sliding gate shall be not less than G90 (0.90 ounce per square foot) of sheet.
